From the parking area, head across the bridge and through the gate to start a climb up the first hill. At the second hill, keep to the right on the bypass trail that avoids the steeper ranch road. Rejoin the road as it follows Round Valley Creek which is shaded by oaks for the first couple of miles. Round Valley is soon reached and the terrain is open grasslands with some shade trees where the trail crosses the creek. The trail ends at the boundary with Contra Costa Water District Los Vaqueros Watershed. Even though the trail continues all the way to Morgan Territory Regional Preserve, access through the watershed land is restricted, so you'll have to turn around and head back the way that you came.
