Overview

A more accessible ride than the Skyline Wilderness Park loop providing an introduction to the area with more trail information and directions to the more challenging singletrack trails.

Need to Know

Parking/entrance fee is $5.00 plus $1.00 if you're riding bikes. If you ride your bike in, it's $3.00 entrance.

Description

A relatively easy out-and-back with a lollipop loop on the Tuteur Loop, formally known as the Napa Solano Ridge Trail, at the upper (southeast) end of the park. The ride uses Lake Marie Road which is the "main street" for gaining access to the backcountry and practically every other trail in the park.

Head up Lake Marie Road to Lake Marie, which is a good spot to take a break. Continue along the south shore where the trail merges with the Skyline Trail past a ruin of a cabin with only the chimney left standing.

Skyline Trail is well-shaded along Marie Creek with a few challenging creek and gully crossings. About 0.5 mi. from the lake a gate marks the park boundary but trail users are allowed access to the Napa Solano Ridge Trail which passes through private land. This trail is locally known as the Tuteur Loop Trail as seen on park signs and is shown here riding in the clockwise direction.

The loop returns to Skyline Trail and Lake Marie. Take the easy way back on Lake Marie Road or try some of the alternate trails like Skyline Trail or Buckeye Trail along the south boundary or Marie Creek Trail and Manzanita Trail on the north boundary. All trails join at Lake Marie and lead back to the day parking area.

Coming down Thatcher Rim-Rock trail. This downhill section is long and a lot of fun but must be earned with a very strenuous hike-a-bike which, for some, may not be worth it.
