Update

An amazing and well-maintained series of trails around Lake Alpine that make for a scenic ride.

Michael Town

Overview

Generally open once the snow melts. Call Bear Valley Cross Country and Adventure Company for current conditions (209) 753-2834.
This is a stunningly scenic ride with some of the funnest singletrack in the area. In general, the trails have very low traffic with beautiful views of Bear Valley from the Osborn Crest Trail and Lake Alpine from the South Emigrant Trail.

Start at the intersection of the Bear Valley to Alpine Lake Trail just southeast of the Silvertip Campground, which is a popular home base for mountain bike adventures for those that like to camp.

Description

Even though this is listed as an easy ride aerobically, it demands solid technical skills. You must be willing to walk your bike through sections that you cannot ride without sliding. Highlights include views of Lake Alpine, and the Carson Wilderness Area. Overall, this is a fun, technically challenging singletrack route that is great for beginners and advanced riders alike.

Bear Valley to Lake Alpine loop and back. Cool and a little windy being between storms made for a great ride! Can't beat the scenery! 11.1mi — 1h 44m

Forecasting the weather...

The only really techy section is at the SW end of the lake, The south side of the lake leading up to that point, is quite easy, so a lower level rider can do an out and back, or else hike for a ways to go all the way around. The trail was routed in an unnecessarrily awkward fashion near the creek crossing. May 9, 2016

Right now I'm just getting things mapped out. Changes will be made in the future. May 9, 2016

Can't beat the scenery of Lake Alpine. Only came across 4 people yesterday. Agree with routing near the creek. If you can just boulder hop across the creek, don't follow signs to the bridge. Great day to be out on the trails! Oct 16, 2016
