“This is a great trail—not too short, not too technical, yet still challenging.”
— Ivan Ankrom
Not too technical, and with few steep hills, this is a great ride for youngsters.
Trailhead Hours: 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Trail Hours: 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
This trail starts out fairly easy. The path is easy to identify and has nice trail markers throughout. About 0.5 miles in, you'll start climbing with a steady 3-4% grade for next 0.25 miles. Then you get a nice descent for the next 1.25 miles before hitting another climb.
The next 1.25 miles has another climb with a small descent towards the beginning. Another 1.25 miles of nice descent with equal climb brings you to a short but 5% grade climb (make sure you're in the right gear or you'll pay). The next 0.25 miles is an easy descent that runs right into a 0.75 mile climb that starts out gentle (2% grade) but quickly turns into a much difficult climb (around 6% grade).
This is followed by a short distance of level ground and then another 0.25 mile climb (around 5% grade) before you finish the last 0.5 miles with a nice descent. From here, you can turn back and go in the other direction, or take you chances on the much more difficult Sidewinder Trail
(IMO not for the beginner).
This trail is not very technical, though throughout there's a handful of tight switchbacks and very short 4-5% grade climbs that will get you if you're not paying attention and don't have the right gear selected. Around the 2-mile mark, the path cuts sharply to the right and you may not notice it until it's to late as it looks like the path continues straight (which just leads you toward Dove Valley Rd).
All in all, this is a very fun trail that still gives you a challenge.
