Old Railroad Grade is one of the classic rides in Marin and a great way to get to the top of Mt Tam.

Family Friendly Great views, wide fire road, and a gentle grade.

Description

Old Railroad Grade goes up, you guessed it, an old railroad bed. The grade is very gentle and gets you all the way to the top of Mt Tamalpais with the least amount of suffering when compared to all of the other alternatives. This trail is a wide fire road, so it is not singletrack, but once you get up past half way, the views are spectacular. Near the top is the West Point Inn where you can get water and enjoy a great view of San Francisco, the bay, and the ocean.
