Overview

The LaGrange Classic Mountain Bike Race runs in the scenic Weaverville Basin Trail System surrounding Weaverville, California. This year's event will have four courses to choose from: Novice, Intermediate, Sport, and Elite.

Racers will travel on 90%+ singletrack through oak woodlands and conifer forests, going back in time atop historic ditch lines leftover from California's Gold Rush days at the foot of the Trinity Alps.

Race day headquarters will be at Lowden Park in downtown Weaverville. Food and beverage vendors will have booths all afternoon for your enjoyment after the race. Tent and RV camping will be available at the park. Make sure you register early to secure your space. For family and friends, the park hosts a pump track, community swimming pool, and a playground.

Organized by Trinity Trail Alliance, the LaGrange Classic Mountain Bike Race is a fundraiser for Weaverville's Trinity Bike Park (in Lowden Park adjacent to the race headquarters). After the race award ceremony, a kids time trial will be held on the pump track. Relax after the race with a cold beer, chow down on some delicious grub, and cheer on the kids.

Description

New for 2020, the Novice course provides a great opportunity for beginning riders to dip their toe into racing. Kids are encouraged to ride this route.

Beginning as the other courses do, the Novice route soon departs with a gradual climb up West Garden Gulch Trail. The transition to East Garden Gulch Trail includes a small drop into a rocky creek crossing.

After a short climb, begins the thrilling descent to Howe Ditch Trail. It will be along Howe Ditch Trail that racers will have to pay attention to oncoming traffic. The next challenge for the beginning rider will be the climb up Jackass Ridge Spur to the sun exposed Jackass Ridge Trail.

Back on Howe Ditch Trail the racer passes the halfway point and begins the return to the finish line. There will be another crossing of Garden Gulch, but this time at lower end, which is more flat and open. After the crossing, it won't be long until the race down the stick of the McKenzie Gulch Trail lollipop and across the finish line.
