Description

This trail starts just off the provincial road SP566dir before it goes into a tunnel under the ridge line. If you don't have a car, you'll have to ride up from the train station in Levanto following the directions for the Alta Via di Cinque Terre (High Way of the Five Lands) ride.

Regardless, from SP566dir you've got about 300 m (1000 ft) to climb in the first three miles. The climb is broken up with occasional views of the Ligurian Sea and the towns on the coast below. When you reach a large fist-like rock at the intersection with a forest road, you'll have reached the end of the climb. You'll also enjoy a great view of the interior of the country.

From the top of the climb, you'll have 3.5 miles of relatively flat cruising along a forest road until the trail ends at the provincial road SP38. Here you can visit a small monastery, the Santuario Nostra Signora di Soviore, (where you can book a night) which is north on SP38 about 0.2 miles. Or continue along the Alta Via di Cinque Terre (High Way of the Five Lands) ride by going south on SP38 about 1/2 mile until the intersection with the provincial road SP51.

At this intersection, take the unpaved doubletrack that continues towards the east to begin the mostly singletrack AV5T Centrale trail.

There is only one rock cairn to show the way on the Alta Via di Cinque Terre, but what is lacking in quantity is made up for in quality. Fortunately there are a few other signs along the way.
