Description

The route itself is mostly rocky and hard-packed with some climbing and descending. Many sections of the trail are old rail-bed with mature pine and hardwood forests encroaching along the edges.

Starting from Calumet Township, you'll pedal out briefly on flat terrain and then drop into a big descent. Afterwards, you'll gradually climb to a high point just under mid-way through the ride. This section is one of the better places to soak in the views of Lake Superior and the surrounding forests.

As the route starts to descend, it turns away from the highway and rambles out to the eastern edge of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Near Hoar Lake, the trail turns towards the north and climbs gradually to the terminus in the quaint lakeside town of Copper Harbor.
