Overview

A route right in the heart of the Twin Cities along the banks of the Minnesota River.

Description

Unlike the other Minnesota River Bottom trails, this trail travels solely within the Fort Snelling State Park. The trail starts at the Sibley House Historic Site and runs southwest to the Highway 77 bridge.

The route is mostly flat. The first section leaves the river near the Sibley House and runs along the bluffs. Under the Highway 55 bridge, seepage from the hillside may run across the trail, making for some damp, muddy spots.

From there, the trail tiptoes between the river and the floodplain. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for planes overhead as you're very close to the Minneapolis/St Paul International Airport.

The rest of the route skirts the south bank of the river to Highway 77. Turn around here to retrace your route back to the start.

Trail is in fantastic condition! Some narrow parts are bushy with very little room for crossing so make sure to take it slow in those sections.
