Glencarlyn Park draws visitors from all over Arlington and Alexandria, and features a nature center and dog park, so it can be quite crowded on nice weekends, please ride courteously and yield to other park users when you can.

Description

Glencarlyn Park consists of the wooded hills and floodplain of Four Mile Run in south Arlington. It's a great park with ample parking, picnic pavilions, a nature center and other attractions and makes a great starting point for riding the Arlington Singletrack Tour.

The trails at Glencarlyn are mostly sidehill singletrack through rocky soil and mountain laurel above the creek, with two loose loops on either side of the main parking area, connected by a paved multi-use path running the length of the park east to west. They hold up to wet weather great, and damp days often provide the best conditions, keeping the dust and gravel down and making sure the park is less packed with other visitors.

The route shown on the map is only a suggestion, as multiple trails parallel and intersect each other, and markings are few and far between. A great after-work ride contained entirely within the park is to link the two loose loops on either side of the main parking area into a figure-8 via the paved connector trail. Also not to be missed is the fun singletrack downhill from the hilltop parking lot west toward the Washington and Old Dominion rail trail (as shown on the map).

With ample parking and other amenities, Glencarlyn Park makes the ideal jumping-off point for the Arlington Singletrack Tour for out of town visitors, or folks driving in from other parts of the county.

Fun, but hard. Lots of fallen trees that will stop anyone that isn't very advanced.
