Description

The Spring Board Trail starts from Bear Gulch Road at gate CM05. Ride down a ridge at a gentle angle before a series of twisty switchbacks begin. Be prepared for a 75 foot, steep plunge down the hillside, then a relaxing traverse to the stream. A final set of stream crossings mark the end of this fun trail.

This trail gets its name from a logging practice- like so many other trails in this preserve. Loggers cut waist-high notches (still visible today on some old stumps) where they inserted springboards to make horizontal platforms. The loggers stood on the boards to cut higher up on the tree, avoiding the wider tree base which didn't have good quality wood. The "spring" boards bounced up and down as the loggers chopped and sawed- hence the name.
