Description

Head north from Balanced Rock Trail along the eastern slope of Cholla Mountain, a nice gentle uphill climb. But beware! This area is aptly named, with forests of Cholla fresh for the prickling. Take it easy and don't fall!

***probably not the best trail for pets and children who might be more inclined to frolic through the fields of Cholla or take misstep***

The north end of Cholla Mountain offers some spectacular views looking north into Tonto National Forest, might be a good spot to take in some water and break out the camera.

The Western side offers some good downhill with some tighter switchbacks (the reason I gave it an "easy/intermediate" rating). If you're a speed demon, just watch out for hikers (a little more popular on the weekends).

Don't forget to stop off at Cathedral Rock and The Amphitheater, both of which nicely wrap up this scenic loop.

some sections may be a bit hairy for a true beginner, but overall the climb is very easy and the downhill is nothing short of flowy goodness.
