Small rolling hills through quintessential Sonoran Desert.

Overview

Description

Head north from Powerline Road #2. After 0.5 miles, take a turn west, following signs for "Balanced Rock."

From that turn it's only 0.3 miles to the scenic point of Balanced Rock, don't forget to stop off and take some pics of yourself pretending to hold it up!

There is plenty of signage at every intersection telling you which way to go, just don't forget to pay attention to them, or you'll find yourself having to back track, since much of this desert looks the same.

From Balanced Rock, just keep heading west. There are lots of little hills, with plenty of recovery downhills. Just a fun, rolling, singletrack.

You can head north onto Cholla Mountain Loop Trail to get some great views of Tonto National Forest, just watch out of the Teddy-Bear Cholla (this mountain is aptly named since it's covered in Cholla, especially the eastern slope). Or continue on west from the end of Balanced Rock Trail to check out "The Amphitheater" (just 0.3 miles from the end of Balanced Rock Trail), another scenic spot.
