Riding is only permitted on trails, don't ride on the gravel roads that surround the network. Be mindful that this is University property and be respectful or access could be lost.

Overview

One of the best rides in the Mobile area, these trails have been hidden away on the USA Campus, but SAMBA has helped make them official and open to the public. Even though it's on campus, the thick trees and forest setting will quickly help you get that "in nature" feel.

Need to Know

Parking area and Trailhead located behind the football practice facilities.

Description

This Featured Ride links up the full set of trails available at the University of South Alabama. Some sections are more advanced, but overall the trails are relatively flat and can be quite fast in areas.

You'll start off with some causal rooty turns and flat ground that will lead you to a hill with a tough downhill that will shoot you right out into the Red Rock trail area. Red Rock will have you cross a campus road (BE MINDFUL OF THE TRAFFIC) and take you directly into one of the most fun sections of the ride.

This area of the trail offers some fast fun turns with berms and a nice flow. Once you've conquered this area you'll cross back over the campus road and enter into the Eric's Trail area.

Eric's Trail has some log obstacles and some very technical root areas that will keep you on your toes. Upon exiting Eric's Trail you're going to shoot down TTT Down and get really moving.

Possibly the fastest area on the trail will have your adrenaline maxed. Be ready because you'll have to squeeze through the Twin Oaks. Squeeze through the Twin Oaks and get ready to attack the ditch that is ever-changing. It has a steep and fast entrance and a steep and punchy climb to exit.

You'll be shot across the field to the Mike Thompson Loop where you'll find some roots and tough technical areas. Upon finishing the MT section you're going to head back across the field and to the ditch that again will be ever-changing even on this section.

After that, you're going to climb back up the TTT Up section. This will lead you to the area known as Mayhem where you can again increase the speed until a long rooty climb will have you slowing again.

Once you've made it through that area you're prepared for the Bottoms Long where you're bike handling skills are going to be tested. This area is the most technical part of the trial and you'll be smiling the whole time. You're ready now to head towards the end! Just tuck your head and keep the pedal to the metal, when you reach the dips at the end, you've made it!!

History & Background

The ride goes over land that used to be private (a house foundation can still be seen) and the Bottoms area used to be an old dump site. The land is now owned by the University of South Alabama.
