Description

This is a short, technically challenging loop. It's technically challenging because it's located on the ravine hillside dropping down to Hunters Creek. This also means it's often wet because of seeps from the hillside, and thus should be avoided except during dry spells.

The trail starts from the Sgt. Mark Rademacher trail near the creek at intersection 7. It starts up by following the creek at the top of a steep bank, offering beautiful views of of the creek gorge through some spruce.

It soons reaches a tributary, and follows that tributary uphill until a suitable crossing is found (there's also a cutover to/from Sgt. Mark's here, too) and then drops down the other side of the tributary before heading north again.

After the trail makes a very sharp drop into and then out of another ravine, it forks at intersection 18. For this description, take a left up a very steep, but very doable/good traction uphill until it turns right and levels off. The trail then snakes along high points of old slides, throwing technical challenges at you in the form of off camber turns and rooty sections.

Eventually, it settles into a smooth downhill to a coniferous grove near the creek, which is often used (illegally!) for camping. Here, you could drop down to Hunters Creek and walk a short section across another tributary to reach more of the trails to the north. But this trail veers right and follows the creek upstream, including making a steep double switchback climb up to a bench, to bring you back to intersection 18 where the trail forked.
