Need to Know

The trail system is accessed via the paved Glacial River Trail that runs from Janesville to Jefferson and is just southeast of the Highway 26 and County Road W overpass. Parking is available just to the north along County W next to the Jefferson County Highway Department Depot. No trail or parking pass required.

Note that the short-staffed county parks department doesn't always come out to close the trail if conditions are poor. Please stay off the trail after rains or while the trail is still damp.

Description

After warming up on a quick loop on the Beginner Trail, try your mettle on several built features on this short but sweet intermediate/advanced trail. Note that while all features are avoidable, this is not a trail for beginners.

Start by riding the Beginner Trail (green) from the trailhead, make two sharp climbing turns and then when you see the sign for the Intermediate (blue) Trail, take the trail to the right. Keep your speed up to hit the small, rollable jump at the start of the trail. Weave downhill through tight forested turns to a flat section with multiple trail features.

Start off with a boulder challenge, two narrow bridges, then a narrow snake, and -- finally -- a quadruple roller coaster (pick your speed carefully!). As you head back uphill to the start, you'll find one more concrete rail challenge to test your balance.

Back at the start, you'll have a big smile on your face and a heart beating out of your chest.

Volunteers from the Jefferson County Bicycle Club in cooperation with the Jefferson County Parks Department developed and maintain this trail system.

Harder than it looks -- I've fallen off more than I've finished it.
