The parking lot for the trailhead is 3.3 miles from the junction of Hwy 285 and CR18. The road turns to washboarded dirt after about a mile, but should be accessible to most vehicles.

Need to Know

This is a lollipop that can be ridden in either direction, but is most fun clockwise. Motorized bikes are not allowed on this trail.

Description

This is a fun little 5.2 mile lollipop just outside of Fairplay with a suprisingly good flow section.

From the parking lot, climb about 0.8 miles to the start of the loop. The loop can be ridden in either direction, but turn left to maximize the fun potential. There's some more climbing for approx 1.6 miles through lodgepole pine and aspen groves with views of Sheep Mtn. The trail will eventually intersect forest road FR182B. Turn right here and follow the road downhill for 0.3 miles until it intersects FR318.

Look for the trail on the right that goes back into the trees. Strap your smile on and get ready to stay off the brakes with minimal pedaling for the next 1.5 miles. This section is fast, flowy and with the right kind of soil to really let the bike grip and turn. There's a couple of tight trees, but nothing you can't see ahead of time.

At the end of this section, high five your friends or dog and climb 0.5 miles back to the beginning of the loop. Do it all again, do it backwards or take the 0.8 mile downhill back to the parking lot that is fast and rowdy with rocks and roots and a different kind of fun from the flow section.

Damp conditions but not wet. Just about perfect. Road clockwise per the description, and recommend doing it that way because the 2nd half is a blast! 5.3mi — 0h 50m
