Description

This section is comprised of several trails starting at Hamilton Drive heading west. Shortly after starting, you'll come across a few patches of sand. At the first intersection, staying left heads toward a parking lot with a bathroom, but for the sake of this route, stay right. The trail will remain somewhat level, but increasingly sandy. The next intersection is the same situation; head left to the parking lot, or right to continue on. Also continue on past the Bug Beach intersection and you'll soon come to a road crossing.

Continue across the road for more sand. The trail begins to climb and there are a few long switchbacks that will bring you to your next intersection. Take a right and continue around the larger hill on the west end of the peninsula. After this right, all of your next choices will be left. Once you take your next left, the trail becomes more solid and has some fun ups and downs, and occasional views of the lake.

After this section, you'll come to another intersection—go left to head back to your starting point. Once you start getting to the sandy soil, you'll be close to the road crossing. Cross over and continue on. Ignore the Bug Beach turn-off again, but head left toward the trailhead.

Once you see the parking lot, you can turn in for a break, or continue on. This will bypass some of the sand and give you a slight downgrade before intersecting with the main trail. After the intersection, it's just a short ride to Hamilton Road, where this section started.
