Some Mud - Not bad at all! Low lying areas some mud but totally rideable History

Getting forecast...

This nice getaway from DFW has great views of PK Lake and more extended climbs/descents than normal in North Texas.

This ride uses a portion of the Possum Kingdom Hike and Bike Trail starting from the Lavilla Road Trailhead, which has a large parking lot and pit toilet. The turn-around point is at the crossing of Hamilton Road before a sandy section.

The trails are mostly wide and machine built, but there are some narrow, rocky sections that probably fall under the difficult rating (the rest probably falls between easy-intermediate). Some of the climbs and descents are more extended than most North Texas trails and flow fairly well.

The majority of the ride is in the shade, but in the summer it can still get hot. The trail is normally not crowded, and if need be, you are never far from another trailhead or road crossing (most of which have trail maps) if you need to bail out for any reason. There are several viewpoints along the route that offer great views of the lake and most have a bench to take a break.

Check out this map for more information.

This was a great experience and challenge. Rode from the main start point, until Sandy Beach. It was rocky, sand pits. Did not see any other rider. — 4h 00m

Mostly wide trails that seem to be setup primarily for hikers, but some sections become more narrow, and there is often a "singletrack" within the wider trail. Lots of loose rocks for the majority of the trail will kick your tires from side to side, and leave chips on your wheels. Colonels Row is a fun technical section where the rocks are all stable. A couple decent downhill runs, albeit short-lived. Tons of beautiful views overlooking the lake. I enjoyed it! Jan 22, 2018
Great Variation with this one. A challenge for newer riders. A great place to get away from the crowds and its only 2 hrs away from Dfw area! I will be back to keep on working my my skills! Nov 22, 2018
