Description

A few steep grades with switchbacks too tight to ride, but otherwise a fun almost year-round singletrack challenge through woods with some views, alternating between steep technical sections and flowy smooth singletrack.

From Big Eddy Recreation Site, the trail starts with steep tight switchbacks up over water bars, a warm-up is suggested if you want to try to power up this. This is followed by a steep technical downhill to the first bridge. You could almost call this first half mile the entrance exam, because it's really the most technically difficult spot, though there are several other isolated obstacles on the trail.

There are many camping spots (bikepacking anyone?) and swimming spots if riding when warm. Near the northern end, there is a sustained climb leading to an awesome downhill on overgrown logging road down into final mile of technical singletrack ending shortly after it crosses Freeman Creek.

Could shuttle cars to the end to make it just under 9mi, or turn around and enjoy it in reverse, because it's a unique experience in reverse.

This trail will get better the more we have folks riding it, so hope to get the word out, thanks!

This is around mile marker 7.5 and facing south (bike pointing north). It gives you a good impression of the narrowness of the singletrack but not the exposure or steepness of the trail.

The bridge over Freeman Creek around mile 8.5 facing north. Steep switchbacks are next, then a nice stretch of singletrack back to the parking area on the north end. Evidence of moose cutting the switchbacks was obvious!
