Overview

Enter Cosca at the athletic fields and drive around to park at the Park Office. Indoor bathrooms and water are available during hours of operation.

Description

The trailhead is located directly across from the Park Office driveway.

Start from the parking lot and head back out the parking lot entrance to the trailhead in front of you. Look for the blue and orange blazes. You'll soon cross a powerline cut; go into the trees opposite then re-cross the powerline cut. Next, make a left turn (berm) at the bottom of the second powerline cut just before re-entering the woods. Take a right turn at the bridges. Do not go straight onto the paved trail.

Soon after the bridges, take an uphill right. Continue on the South Orange Connector. Take a left and head down the rollers (blazed green here), but watch for a sharp turn as you get closer to the bottom. Be prepared and don't miss the trail to the right slightly. The trail to the left soon heads up steps to the Nature Center.

Take a sharp turn that drops to the left and do not go straight on the old trail (Gold Post). A sign on a tree here has gone away. Stay to the left and retrace your route along the South Orange Connector. Cross over the powerline cut and keep going into the trees (blazed purple). Go straight at the 4-way intersection (purple blaze). At bottom of the descent, stay to the right.

Soon after crossing a deep ravine, veer to the right onto the new Yellow Trail loop. There are no signs for this trail yet. Some segments are partially finished and rough. The final segment is not built yet, but the first one is rideable. Cross the service road and go straight across the wide underground cable service road. The trail is not complete here and you'll turn around and re-trace back to the yellow blaze trailhead.

Take a sharp turn to the right (if you crossed the deep ravine again, you've passed the turn). This turn is clearly seen and the Yellow Trail loop will eventually end or, rather, join the trail here. After the turn, you cross a new bridge, and at the 4-way intersection, go straight ahead. Continue straight across an old road bed with the end of a paved trail to the left.

The trail seems to disappear as you open up onto the grass behind a batting cage—no worries, you're almost done. Hug the edge of the woods to the right then cross a rip rap rock garden ditch. Go to the right and onto the road and you'll soon see the north end of the parking lots you entered to the left. You can cross the grass and enter here or take the road to the stop sign and soon turn left where you started.

The Yellow Trail loop is mostly finished, but not completely. It's best to turn and backtrack to the ravine and purple-blazed trail intersection.

Taking this route should give you over nine miles of riding. Future mileage estimates are for about 16 miles total, plus an MTB skills park.

Twisty turns is right, with some undulation. Lot of dry leaves on the trails, and downed trees. Not as good as Rosy but clean bathrooms? 9mi — 1h 25m

Fun trail. Not too difficult, good for beginner rider. During the colder months it's a little hard to follow - the ground is a bed of leaves. 12mi — 1h 45m

Did all of Cosca for the 2d time in 4 days. Trails completely deserted both times; as mentioned, still some big downed trees across the trails. 10mi — 2h 00m

Had trouble navigating the trail system. Ending up riding purple first...bad choice. Orange and Green are easier. Fair number of downed trees. 7mi — 1h 10m

Some major trees down on the trail (at least 6) and a lot of leave coverage... Unfortunately needs some work, otherwise would be a great flowy trail. 6.5mi — 1h 00m
