Check with the office before parking at the Job Corps. On the weekends, it is probably best to park at the unmarked parking lot on KY 77 about half a mile to the south and ride in.

Description

FSR #173 doesn't show up on maps, but it is a maintained Forest Service Road within the National Forest. You can access it through the Frenchburg Job Corps.

It's best to park to the south at the trailhead at the top of KY 77 (Tarr Ridge) and ride the road and avoid parking on the Job Corps. The road begins behind the Job Corps Firefighting Team shed and just before the disc golf course and baseball diamond. Refer to the aerial before going the first time.

This road provides solitude and access to some great, mostly-unknown vistas.

The Cave Run - Red River Gorge Mountain Bike Alliance is working with the USFS to develop more singletrack in this vicinity and this road was suggested by the land manager as a starting point for planning and building interest.
