From Hardscrabble Mountain Road, there is a well-marked trail start just beyond Wolverton Spring, off Sawmill Gulch Rd (413). You may ride up Pipeline a.k.a. Third Gulch or park near Wolverton Spring.

This has a few up and down areas, with a few that might require to hike your bike.There are a few cattle crossings but overall the trail is a doubletrack that is fairly rocky.

Further into the trail, you'll see a trail to the right which is Abrams to Firebox Road (461) Connector. Just a short while longer, the trail takes a turn. You'll see into the trees and a small cleared area that there is a singletrack. This is the Firebox singletrack trail.

If you continue on this road, it will eventually reach 451 Road deep into the Hardscrabble Area. After the turn in the road, the trail becomes more wooded and steep with one more cattle crossing.

If you do not continue along the road, but instead take the singletrack, this is fairly steep with good turns. It goes past Dead Cow and eventually reaches Mike's Night Out.
