Overview

This area got pretty beat up during the 2015 fire season. Fiske Creek and Long Canyon were unharmed as well as Foley Creek. So these parts can still be ridden in a pretty natural state. However, much of the ridge was bulldozed for a firebreak. I suppose it will grow back...

Need to Know

It is a pretty remote. There is some route finding to do. It took me 4.5 hours to ride 26 miles. Water is sparse to non- existent. Some areas are overgrown. Be careful, staying up on top on the way back. Dropping down into the upper end of Fiske Creek is very overgrown and difficult to traverse. As always, stay away for weeks after any rain.

Description

This ride starts with a climb of nearly 2000' in 4.5 miles to the cross roads. Turn left and follow the ridge for three miles and look for a jeep track dropping off the right side. Descend for one mile to a small saddle. Just uphill from the saddle go cross-country for 200 yards to a small stock pond. There you can pick up a faint track that gets better as you drop into Foley Creek Descent.

Four miles of fun descending finishes at Knoxville Road. Follow the road south for 0.7 of a mile to the metal posts at the start of Long Canyon Trail. It is five miles and 1,300 ft. to the pass. Go have a look, but then go back and follow the doubletrack uphill to a big stock pond and a split junction just above the pond.

Turn right and press on across a faint trail that leads to a barbwire gate and jeep trail beyond. Make all the correct turns here and you'll soon be back on the ridge and retracing your tracks back down the ridge to Road 40 and the low water bridge.
