Overview

An excellent trail system found in the Red Feather Lakes area. These trails use public and private land. You'll experience fast sections of singletrack through dense forest as well as a few creek crossings.

Need to Know

You can stop in the Beaver Meadows office to get a trail map.

Description

This loop begins from the Beaver Meadows parking lot between the condos and the pond. Head over the bridge or back on the road and turn right on Trappers. Take this a short way up past the "Trailhead" and pump house. Charge up a few yards of singletrack and make another right on North Fork. Follow this easy path west through the campgrounds.

Here you'll find a creek crossing with several options for crossing. Once past the creek, stay to the right and ascend Pearl Creek. You'll come to a large rock face in the middle of the hill which used to be part of a DH race course (check out this video of the drop).

Stay left here and follow the Pearl Creek singletrack. At the time of this writing, there are blue ribbons on trees marking the trail. Pearl Creek alternates between single and doubletrack and road access. Here is where you merge with Frontier. Stay to the right on Frontier and enjoy the forest.

You'll be traveling between alternating forest and exposed clearings. Keep an eye on the weather. Make some noise to increase your fun level and to alert any wildlife that may also be having fun. This section of the course takes you on some very fun, fast, and flowy singletrack. Once you get to the stream crossing you have just a short bit of fast trail before the mid-course climb up Powderhorn.

Ascend Powderhorn until Cabin Creek. Turn right and ascend Cabin Creek. Make a left on Trappers. From here you have only a bit more uphill until a sweet fast rocky descent. After enjoying the wide rocky switchbacks continue straight passed Renegade. Make the next left available to Trappers and scoot down for another lap or the beers in your car.

I wanted to like this trail but signage is poor and maintenance is way overdue. I rode the loop counter-clockwise as suggested and had a hard time… 11mi
