Overview

These are the new beginner trails which start at the culvert across the street from Rainbow Lake parking. The layout is essentially 3 "lollipops" on top of each other. You'll ride a gently climbing access trail to the first loop. Connector trails will take you from Loop 1 to Loop 2 and Loop 2 to Loop 3. While the layout is a bit confusing, the loops are short (~0.5 mi each), so you should orient quickly. These trails do not directly connect to other parts of the network, so you won't get lost. Eventually, you'll descend back through the loops and back out the access trail to the road.

Description

Expect gentle grades with minimal obstructions, however, the terrain is mountainous and the trail tread does contain rocks, roots, rollers, and switchbacks. These are the easiest trails in Emmitsburg, but they are enjoyable for all levels of riders. Alternate challenge lines and bermed turns offer more experienced riders plenty of options.

A ride on all 3 loops will involve some amount of "out and back" overlapping, so don't get nervous if you find yourself descending a section you climbed earlier. If you ride all three loops you should ride about 3 miles and climb 200 feet or less. All loops are enjoyable in both directions.

I went early morning after it had rained a little bit overnight. It was still a fun ride only slightly slippery on a few corners.
