Description
Part of the remarkable Summit County Recreation Path system, this section is one of the most scenic and popular. It has only short hills, many rest stops, and is suitable for everyone.
Starting at the Frisco Marina, wiggle around a few condo developments until you escape into beautiful wetlands with wildflowers, views of the lake and mountains in all directions.
Continue around the lake, up and down very small hills, past a campground, and then over the actual Dillon Dam. The dam creates this enormous reservoir which provides water to the city of Denver. Long tunnels actually drain the lake UNDER the continental divide to the front range. The dam was built from 1961-1963 and forced the town of Dillon to be relocated (the old site is 250 below water!).
Once over the dam, continue on to the town of Dillon, where you can connect with the
Snake River Rec Path, find one of the many nearby singletracks, or return the way you came. Perfectly good in either direction.
