Description

A great trail near Durango that is being used more and more by mountain bikers, although the area has a lot of horse and cow traffic as well as hunters in the fall.

Go north of Durango on CR 240 and then turn onto CR 246. Go past Colvig summer camps onto USFS to a gate. Keep going til the road dead ends at the TH for both First Fork and Red Creek. Look for First Fork marked on your left with a gate.

The trail begins steep and has some rocky section. The trail eventually mellows out and stays close to the creek bed most of the way up. The creek only runs in the spring. The trails tops out on Missionary Ridge. The best option is to go back down the well maintained trail you just climbed. However, you can go along Missionary Ridge and drop down Haflin Creek Trail, Red Creek, or Stevens.
