Description

Sign in at the registration kiosk near the trailhead. It helps the DEC channel support for upkeep. The Fire Tower hill is the Red trail with numbered utility poles all the way up. The trail is doubletrack or wider, packed crushed stone. It's 2+ miles uphill with little respite.

On your way up, keep your inspiration flowing by peaking left to glimpse Indian Head Mtn and Sugarloaf Mtn peaks. And, the utility poles that line the trail are numbered if you need some encouragement that you're making progress.

Around 1 3/4 miles up the trail levels off for a quick second when passing the ominous old mountain house. Then bear right at the intersection and pass by the gate leading to the firetower. There is a little cabin with some museum displays and historical goodies. The tower is awesome. Take the stairs to the top and get one of the best 360 degree mountain views around.
