Overview

Biking and hiking trails behind the Pine Mountain Lake campgrounds in Groveland, CA. These trails consist of steep hilly dirt roads to the top of a ridge with a beautiful overlook of Groveland, CA and Pine Mountain Lake. There's lots of steep climbing but great views along the way.

Need to Know

Watch out for poison oak. Trail can be very steep. Watch out for black bears and mountain lions.

Getting there... Take highway 120 going to Yosemite. Take the first left onto Feretti Road right before the market in Groveland, CA. Go 3 miles until you see the Pine Mountain Lake Campground. Turn into the campground and follow hiking signs to the trailhead.

Description

From the trailhead you'll have an assortment of different trails you can ride. Most of them are dirt roads that are for hiking and biking. Start with a very steep climb up Branding Iron Dr that gradually levels off. Take a right onto Wolverine Dr for a shortcut or continue downhill on Branding Iron Dr to meet up with Antelope Drive. Either way you'll end up on Antelope Drive, on which you'll climb uphill to get to the top near the Shooting Range.

You can turn around and go back down Antelope drive, or if you're up for a challenge, go down the Fence Line Trail, which is a narrower steep dirt trail that you'll get some thrills from. Watch out for poison oak on this skinny trail.

At the bottom of the Fence Line trail, take Rainbow Dr road back to Antelope drive if you want another descent on Fenceline. Take the Rocky Point trail loop for some extended mileage. Sierra Star way will bring you through the compost area which can be smelly and smokey.
