Overview

Steep downhill on fast backcountry singletrack. Loose gravel towards the summit that can get a bit slippery.

Description

One helluva ride down. This Big Sur gem is sure to give you fast, steep downhill alongside breathtaking views.

You can find the trailhead 30 miles north of Hearst Castle along Highway 1. You'll be able to park off the highway at the trailhead or you could explore shuttle options up Nacimiento-Fergusson Road to the summit.

If you choose to bike up, the grind up is only four miles but covers 3100 ft and requires a bit of hike-a-bike. Bring lots of water. The ride down however, is a stunning one at that. Panoramic views of Big Sur and the California coastline. The singletrack down is very fast and can be pretty steep in a few sections, can be difficult for beginners. A must-see for anyone with the confidence to try visiting the area.

Ride probably doesn’t get more reviews as there is no mobile service anywhere near. However, it’s a good ride if you’re camping nearby. — 2h 40m
