Description

Pigeon Roost begins off of Kanawha State Forest Road, about 1500' past the parking lots for Shelters 5-7. The trail is on the right hand side of the road, almost directly across from the outlet of Black Bear.

The trail begins on a doubletrack ATV trail following a small gas line. It gains elevation immediately, with a punchy climb from the road. The mid section is relatively level, following the contour of the hillside. About halfway up, Rocky Ridge Trail bears off to the right. Rocky Ridge is an approximately 2 mile long trail that ascends to a ridge, where it runs along a gas well road before descending back off the ridge down to the main forest road directly across from Shelters 5-7.

The junction of Pigeon Roost and Rocky Ridge is marked. Bear left to stay on Pigeon Roost. Beyond the intersection with Rock Ridge, the trail narrows to singletrack and steepens to a steady ascent until ending at the West Boundary Ridge Road.
