Overview

This route travels along amazing Kentucky hardwoods and climbs over 200' to the top of the "Omega Ridge." There is a waterfall along the Waterfall Loop that runs pretty well during the spring. This ride provides a great mix of terrain.

If you make all right-hand turns, you can't get lost!

The trail is a partnership between the Southwest Kentucky Mountain Bike Association, Kentucky State Parks, US Army Corps of Engineers, and the Friends of Nolin Lake. More trail construction is underway.

Need to Know

The Southwest Kentucky Mountain Bike Association needs your volunteer support. Trail work days at 9:00 AM on the second Saturday of every month. swkymba@msn.com for more information.

Description

At the Parking Lot go to the trailhead towards the boat ramp on the right. Enter the trail on the right.

At the first intersection, turn right onto Waterfall Loop. Continue until you reach the Connector: Waterfall- Omega. Turn right onto the short connector until the next intersection. Turn right onto Omega Loop and continue the climb to the highest point on the trail.

At the top of the hill is the next intersection - turn right and jump the ramp into the Omega Flow (left will take you back down the other side of Omega Loop to the intersection you last passed). Down Omega Flow, you'll see many optional jump lines, followed by a number of twisting berms. After the berms, you'll cross a log bridge. After the log bridge, there will be a small intersection, with some rocks on the left. This leads to some rock stairs, and the trail on right bypasses them.

At the next intersection, turn right onto Lakeshore Bluff Trail to continue the downhill fun. Some of the best views on this trail are along this section, leading to a dock water crossing. Continue across the dock to continue the Lakeshore Bluff Trail to the next intersection, where you reach the Point Loop. This is a loop, so turn right or left to complete this and return to this same intersection.

Then, get back onto Lakeshore Bluff Trail across the dock and back up to the next intersection, continue right towards the Waterfall Loop and trailhead, (or you can turn left and immediate right to climb the west leg of the Omega Loop). At the next intersection, turn right for the Connector: Waterfall- Omega (or left to climb the east leg of Omega Loop). From the connector, turn right at the next intersection for the Waterfall Loop. This leg of the Waterfall Loop is the quickest return to the trailhead.

For first timers, by taking all rights, you'll ride almost all of the trail and back to the parking lot and not have to worry about wrong turns or getting lost.

History & Background

Portions of this trail were once a poorly designed and maintained hiking trail. The Southwest Kentucky Mountain Bike Association has transformed this area into the best biking and hiking trail in the area. More trail development to come. A 5-mile total ride trail is partially under construction now, and will be completed in 2013. This new trail will travel out to the Point and will provide lots of rock riding, great views of the lake, and impressive rock bluffs and a rock garden or two.
