Description
Similarly to it's higher elevation sibling
Chaquaqua , First Spring offers easier grades for climbing than the adjacent Osita Ridge section of the
Fishers Peak Trail. It is a bidirectional trail and it's fun in either direction, with a few higher speed sections towards the bottom.
If descending, from the Osita Point trail hub, head north on First Spring. This half-mile segment is a fun flowy mini descent. Take a hard left after the junction with
Chaquaqua and prepare for a stack of switchbacks. After these, the trail opens up a bit and transitions from deep woods and old-growth oak forest (magical vibes) to the sandier, deserty terrain common on the lower trails of Fishers Peak.
Once near the bottom, you'll join an old ranch road at the junction with
Goldenrod (which is uphill only, so do not turn right to descend it). Continue on the doubletrack for a ways, but keep your eyes peeled for the singletrack to cut to the right from the road. You'll hit the lower trail hub where you can take
Upper Lone Cub to
Poison Canyon Downhill or
Lower Lone Cub to finish your ride.
If climbing, do all of that in reverse! The trail is a fairly long but pleasant climb with neat environs. The upper loops can be ridden in a number of combinations, so be sure to try them all.
