Overview
The
Wormhole Loop, made possible largely through community efforts, offers a quick and fast rip through the high desert outside of Trinidad, Colorado. An easy ride from town, the trailhead can be accessed at the west end of Arch St or via the Crossbed Trail which runs behind the cemetery.
Need to Know
This trail is rideable either way but clockwise is more fun for the features like Challenge Rock.
Description
A short, punchy, and loose climb with a couple of rock step-ups will bring you to the beginning of the loop.
The north end is sandier and flatter with some exposure to the cliffs and views out over the city dump and plains. The south loop is chunkier and has a couple fun features including slickrock sections with optional lines, a couple of drops, and more exposure. At the south edge of the loop is a great view of Simpson's Rest and the city.
After a lap or three, the descent to the trailhead is fast and twisty. Watch out for the loose rocks and sandy corners. At the bottom as the trail flattens out, there's a gap jump to one of the final berms on your right.
Most of the loop is fairly flat with some little kickers to climb. It is a solid blue for the chunk, loose corners, and exposure.
