Overview

Some great trails to have a good time in the Canyon. Definitely not a "beginner" route on paper, but has plenty of sections to recover.

Description

The start is at the bottom of Captain Jack's. You can drive here or ride up Gold Camp to start.

You'll continue on Gold Camp Rd. 1.7 miles to the main parking lot, also known as the Buckhorn Lot. Continue straight through the lot, past the porta-potties, around the gate to keep riding up the doubletrack.

At mile 2.85, you'll be at the collapsed tunnel and why you can't drive to Cripple Creek this way. There is a steep trail to the left of the tunnel that goes up and around. Keep in mind, you'll be coming back down this way as you come back from Sweetwater and Daniels. For now, enjoy a short, fast descent to a creek crossing. After you cross the creek, the further right you go, the less of a boulder drop awaits you.

Settle in for more climbing to Daniels at mile 3.54. Finally, sustained singletrack! Descend to meet up with Sweetwater at mile 3.85, take the right-hand switchback to ride Sweetwater/Daniels counter-clockwise. Hint: it starts fast, then turns into climbing.

At mile 5.65, look for the Middle Sweetwater Connector on your left to climb back to Daniels. It's a short connector, at mile 6.05, turn left back to climb up Daniels to Gold Camp Rd at mile 6.25 to your right.

Take a right onto Gold Camp Rd to climb and descend back down Gold Camp to the collapsed tunnel. Grab a bite! You'll have the creek crossing again at mile 7.15. Take the trail back up to go over the tunnel. Descend the swoops back onto Gold Camp.

Get a snack while you can, the climb up Buckhorn starts at mile 7.75.

You'll take Buckhorn all the way up to where it intersects Captain Jack's at mile 9. Hang a right for some relief and an epic view at mile 9.25. You're almost done!

Kitty litter awaits you on the first switchback off the lookout. Keep it loose as you rocket down to High Drive. Cross over and go through the moto gate on your left at mile 9.87. A slight uphill is needed as you contour around to the goods.

The descent starts at mile 10.34. Have fun!! Stay on Jack's all the way back to the start!
