Need to Know
Vault toilets are available at the Upper and Lower Pinal Campgrounds up top, and at the CCC Trailhead at the bottom. Topo Joe's in Globe offers a shuttle service to transport cyclists to the upper trailheads.
Description
All the Pinal Mountain trails are open in either direction, though they are most popular with cyclists as downhill routes.
The Icehouse Canyon Trail branches from Forest Road 651 and immediately winds down the tightest switchbacks on the route. It soon reaches the cool and shady canyon bottom, where the singletrack is usually buff but goes through some tight turns. Deadfalls are frequent along the canyon bottom, so be ready to carry your bike over a few fallen logs despite the hard work of the Tonto Gravity Riders. The smooth forest singletrack ends near the junctions with the Telephone Trail and the
Kellner Canyon Trail; from here to the CCC Trailhead, the route follows a disused roadbed with a loose, rocky, rutted surface before ending on a half mile of jagged desert singletrack that can be tricky to find and follow. Please pay attention to the signs and stay off the disused routes that are undergoing restoration.
