Overview

This route hits almost all of the trails from the main parking lot, including Hidden Canyon which can get overlooked by those looking to do a loop out to the point. However, the short retracing of the road and South Rim are totally worth the effort to add in this section of trail.

Description

From the main parking lot, head out along South Rim Trail. The trail starts out easy enough and winds through variable and interesting terrain including some great singletrack and slickrock. You'll pass the junction for the Secret Trail, Hidden Canyon Trail, and the second Secret Trail access point. Of course, if you're gung-ho to add on an extra 6.6 miles, the Secret Trail is an excellent bypass.

The second junction with the Secret Trail is right at the rim, and here the ridding gets really cool. With a few steep slickrock ups and downs, and a lot of rim ridding, you'll expereicne some of the coolest trail while enjoying stunning views. Ride all the way out to the point, and enjoy a snack break while taking in the nearly 360-degree vista. From there, back-track slightly and hop onto White Trail before taking the turn-off for Yellow Trail. Yellow Trail is neat but felt a little like a take-it or leave-it.

From the end of that, you can either blast back on the road (White Trail), or follow North Rim Trail for a different view. The riding on this side is quite a bit easier than South Rim. Here is where you want to stay heads up: After just over a mile on North Rim Trail watch for an exit back to the White Trail (the road). Follow the road west then turn right onto another road that heads south back to the rim and South Rim Trail. Back at South Rim Trail, follow it west just under a mile until you get back to the junction with Hidden Canyon Trail. Here take the canyon down. This trail is reallly cool—it twists and turns its way through some interesting terrain back to White Trail and then North Rim Trail.

Follow North Rim Trail till it ends and then, if you still have some gas in the tank, jump on Practice Loop before heading back to the trailhead.
