Description
The Pozega Lake Trail climbs up the side of the Racetrack Creek Valley to get to the beautiful Big Pozega Lake, with the option of continuing on doubletrack to Little Pozega Lake or Green Lake. It is one of the more mountain bike friendly trails in the area, as many of the other hiking trails in the Flint Creek Range are much more like backcountry trails. For the most part this trail is well built and has rideable grades and robust switchbacks. Due to the sustained gradient the climb to the top is not easy, and there are a few sections about 2/3 of the way up that are steep and loose, and may have you walking your bike for a while.
Trail can be slow to clear of snow in the spring due to being North Facing, however once the snow is gone it tends to dry out quite quickly.
Trail is accessed from Racetrack Creek Road and is mostly ridden as an out and back. It is possible to access this trail from the top, but via Green Lake Trail and Racetrack Creek Trail, but these trails are much more difficult, and if you were planning such a loop it would be advised to use Pozega Lake Trail as your ascent.
Racetrack Creek Road Can be fairly rough and narrow once you pass the campground. It's possible to drive up to the Trailhead, but having a 4x4 is advised. A good alternative is parking at the campground and riding the extra 6 miles on the road to the trailhead.
