Overview
This route tracks a few more of the as-yet-unnamed trails in the Water Tower System. It includes rocky drainages, short hill climbs, and a few small drops/ledges. It is not truly a blue-black for the GJ area, but its just a smidge harder than a straight blue.
Description
Really one of the most amazing things about this area are the 360 degree views! You can see the Bookcliffs and Mount Garfield to the northeast, the Grand Mesa to the east, and the gorgeous rock formations of the Monument surround you on the southwest, west and northwest sides. It is a stunner!
Starting at the 23 Road neighborhood TH, you'll first travel up through a drainage that offers some technical warm-ups. Although this route breaks off to the south about half way up this drainage, you could continue straight instead (the obstacles get more numerous and larger and the drainage ends near the western edge of the system).
Next you'll ascend the north side of a ridge and wind back east through some fun rolling sections with a few rocks to hop or dodge. Join
Queen's Way for a bit then head north through a confusing are with MULTIPLE trails (its okay of you take the wrong one - they're all fun!) until you hook back up with
Overlook and ride it counter clockwise till your on the south side of the water tower.
You'll head into the confusing area again (I like to call this area "the maze" but it is not officially named) and then start to head east again and back to the TH. This last bit has a couple of mellow climbs, one a little steeper, without many technical options. This whole route isn't too long. To extend, grab any nearby trail that looks good, or do the whole route again!
