Description
There are three sections of Blue Ridge Fire Road. The upper section (this one) is a wind-swept fire road that goes over the top of White Hill. The middle section goes nowhere (there's a private section that's closed), and the lower section is a rocky, rutted, loose gravel road that goes down into Cascade Canyon and connects to Middle Fire Road.
As for this section: From the north, it's a very steep uphill, gradually getting less steep as you approach the top of White Hill. From the south, it's not as steep, but a bit longer. The view from the top is the payoff.
You don't need a Camp Tamarancho Pass for trails in White Hill Preserve or Cascade Canyon Preserve, so in a counter-clockwise direction, you can ride up
White Hill Trail,
Sherwood Forest Fire Road,
Porcupine Trail,
White Hill Fire Road, and Blue Ridge Fire Road: Upper, across
Wagon Wheel Trail, then down Blue Ridge Fire Road: Lower, and Middle Fire Road to Cascade Creek.
But if you want to enjoy the downhill, get the pass and ride down
B-17 Trail or
Serpentine Trail through Camp Tamarancho. Or ride up those and over this trail on the way to
San Geronimo Ridge Road,
Repack Road, and beyond.
