Overview

This loop is comprised of some of the original trails built at the Bailey's. The trails are fpr the most part extremely smooth and the climbing is always rewarded with fast and flowing downhill sections. Be sure to try out the pump track in the parking area. Salt Train Connector allows for some route flexibility for the downhill back into Chauncey, allowing the option to ride the eastern section of Coal Train Trail back to the lot.

Description

Follow the Chauncey Depot Trail north from the parking lot before taking a left into the woods onto a short connector that leads to the Gob Pile Loop.

Gob Pile can be ridden either direction, although I prefer counterclockwise. This fast and fun loop and is a great way to get warmed up for the upcoming climbing and can be repeated a couple of times before dropping into the clearly marked Coal Train Trail.

You'll head northwest along Coal Train Trail and begin the gradual climb to the top of the ridge where you'll eventually reach the intersection with Salt Works Trail. After the intersection you'll head a short distance north along Salt Works Trail before taking a quick left onto Tipple Top Trail.

The trail becomes a bit tighter once you get onto Tipple Top Trail, this appx 1.8-mile section of Tipple Top is relatively flat as it wanders along the ridgetop. Be sure to take a right onto Wild Turkey Trail and after a short climb you'll find yourself at highest elevation of the loop, and its time enjoy some of the downhill rewards.

This is the first extended downhill section of the loop, and after bombing along Wild Turkey Trail, be sure you head right onto Lost Marbles Trail where the downhill fun continues. After a splash in the creek crossing, you begin to climb bask to the top of the ridge via a sometimes tight and twisty section of Lost Marbles Trail.
