Need to Know

No parking at the upper trail termination. There are a few narrow pullouts on Skyline Drive a little ways from the trail. Access to the lower end of the trail is from the West Side Story trail not far from the Iron Springs Trailhead.

Description

The upper end of the trail leaves from the side of Happy Valley Road just off of Skyline Drive. There is a sign with a map near the trail start. The trail initially descends slowly and then begins to descend much more steeply down a few switchbacks.

The upper 0.75 miles of the trail is not as well used and groomed as most Spence Basin trails. Once the trail passes the start of the Santa Fe Trail, it becomes less steep and smoother. Shortly, the trail ends at a junction with the West Side Story trail.

The lower termination of the trail can be reached by following the West Side Story trail 1.25 miles from the Iron Springs Trailhead.
