Buck Loop for parking information.
Description
Coming off the
Buck Loop, the rider will take a right down what we call Triceratop Drop, it's nothing major and you'll know it when you see the Triceratops skull. After that, it is pretty flat as the trail follows a creek. If there has been a good rain there is one section near the creek where a small cascade can be enjoyed, stop and enjoy the sound of the running water before heading on.
Soon after the cascade, the rider will have their first creek crossing and after this, the trail slowly heads away from the creek and toward a secluded pond. It will be just after the pond that the hardest climb begins, it is a mild and short climb.
After this climb, the terrain is flat to rolling as the trail meanders its way through the forest. Keep an eye out for deer that frequent this area and use the trails as a superhighway. As the rider approaches the end of the Stag Loop, there will be two more creek crossings, then up a small hill and back to the
Buck Loop.
If one looks close enough they will see remnants of the tornado that struck this area back in 2009. The trail has been built by the Mena Open Trail Alliance in cooperation with the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain. The trail system known as the UARM trail system was built to fill the need for a beginner mountain bike trail in the area. If you are looking for more of a challenge, check out
Earthquake Ridge Trail. The Stag Loop is blazed with blue.
