Need to Know
Do not park in the parking lot on the north side of the college near the student dorms, you'll get a ticket.
Description
The trail is located on the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain property. You can park in one of the school's parking lots with the exception of the student parking located near the student dorms. There is also parking located off of Polk Road 77 running just east of the college. This is a small primitive dirt parking area but is close to the trailhead. Finding parking in the parking lots when school is in session might be difficult. If the dirt parking area is full, your next best option would be the parking lot on the west side of the college.
Once you find a place to park, you are going to head for the paved trail that goes around the lower pond. The trailhead for the Buck Loop is located on the north side of the pond. The trail starts off gently rising up until it crosses a dirt road. It is at this point where you'll return to after the loop is completed.
After crossing the dirt road, the trail will slowly head down toward an old stream and then bring you back up again. After this, it meanders through the woods a bit until it heads down toward the creek again. When you start to climb up away from the creek, watch to your right for a small waterfall, assuming we have had enough rain. Once you have completed this short little climb, the trail goes back to meandering on flat terrain.
The loop will eventually come to the junction of the
Rack Loop. Here you'll veer to the left to stay on Buck Loop. There will be one more junction with
Rack Loop just ahead and after that, the trail will bring you out to a dirt road. Here you want to turn left onto the dirt road and it will bring you back to the start. The Buck Loop is blazed with white blazes.
