Description

The loop is a collection of three different trails, with multiple access points. This is a nice loop to add some variety and miles in the middle of the Rock Creek + Tepee Creek Loop.

You'll start by riding a half mile of creekside singletrack towards FSR #250 (Big Rock Creek Road) along the Tepee Creek Trail, which finishes with a deep (12"-18") creek crossing. Make a left turn on FSR250, heading uphill. You'll be on FSR250 for 0.7 miles, and then turn right onto FS #242 - keep your eyes peeled. There is a brown fiberglass sign marking the beginning of Trail #242, but it's easy to ride past it.

Once onto Trail #242, you'll immediately have a deep (12"-18") creek crossing, then climb uphill towards a green metal gate. Only hikers, bikers, and equestrians are allowed past this point. Continue uphill on Trail #242's doubletrack.

As of August 2020, there was some fallen timber down across the trail, but nothing that that impedes progress too much. The trail was marked with orange fluro tape from time to time. Download the MTB Project mobile app or the GPX track to follow the trail. There is not a lot of traffic on Trail #242, so the GPX track will help keep you in the right direction.

You'll come to a very large valley - skirt the edge of the trees and stay to the right hand side. Later, you'll come to the winding downhill where you can pick up some speed. The trail ends nearby a wide barbed wire gate (close it behind you - there are free range cattle grazing in the area), and Trail #242 ends at the junction with FSR #241. You'll be a stone's throw away from HWY 134 at this point.

To complete the loop, ride on FSR #241 back towards Tepee Creek, where you can ride the short 0.5 mile singletrack trail along the creek back to the junction with Rock Creek Trail.
