Need to Know

This is a brand new system trail in 2020. It's rustic, hand-built, and hard to follow in a few spots. Keep looking, and as we ride it in, it gets better. Watch weather as the descent is totally exposed on the face of Soda. It resembles 401 in Crested Butte for its downhill, and its long valley views.

Description

Starting with a three-mile climb out to Soda Mountain, the trail is narrow, steep, and has several technical rock problems that bring you to a small false summit. 1.5 miles in, the trail gets most technical into the dip and up toward the real summit ridge of Soda. This is the most challenging segment of the trail.

After earning the summit, at three miles from the road, the descent begins and crosses back and forth across the face of Soda Mt. The elevation is around 10,300ft. Five miles and 2,000+ ft of downhill sweeps you far up into the top of Soda Creek's draw, and returns you to the Ditch Trail out of Dry Lake, eight miles from the road. From there, it's a two-mile flat trail back to Dry Lake parking.

This trail has some sections that are as technical as BTR, but has nothing like the extreme DH lines on Grouse Ridge. The BTR (Behind The Ridge) sections roll easier than anything on BTR (Behind The Ridge) but the climb makes you really earn the descent.

10+ downed trees. It was a little heady because you couldn't see far ahead of you in the trees. Still a great ride!
