Description

Grouse Ridge is an expert level downhill trail from near the summit of Buffalo pass to the Ditch Trail. It has many exposed cliff edge lines, drops, rock features, and difficult technical sections. Grouse Ridge got new life as a social trail that adapted as part of the ongoing trail expansions in the area. It was funded with 2A tax funds generated by hotel room taxes in Steamboat Springs.

The lower half of the trail is generally less technical and exposed than the upper part. It joins up with what will eventually be the lowest portion of the Soda Mountain Trail (targeted to open in 2018). The lower part can be also be accessed from the Grouse Connector off of FS Road 60.2A.

I'm not sure this route is Grouse proper—based on the latest USFS status doc (fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DO…) Grouse stays south of Soda Creek South Fork. Jun 22, 2018
Cosmo, I thought the trail that split off Grouse ridge and stayed south of the South fork of Soda Creek was R2D2, and the Grouse ridge connected north to the base of Soda mountain trail (not built as of 6/23/18) crossed the creek twice up high, and once again along the ditch trail before R2D2 rejoined. I will keep working on these pages as the USFS roll out signs and update this page as on ground information becomes available. Thanks for the post. Jun 23, 2018
