Description

The first three miles of this trail is a wide gravel road (closed to traffic) connecting the parking area to the backcountry campground and the ruins of a farm building near Jones Spring. This section is relatively flat and nontechnical.

Starting at the eastern end of the park near Jones Spring, Wolf Mountain Trail climbs about 100 feet over a mile of singletrack. The singletrack is uphill and not too technical, but it is definitely different from the rest of the trail which is a gravel road.

The gravel road resumes after the singletrack section eventually intersecting with itself to form a big lollipop. You can take either the main trail or Wolf Mountain Spur around Wolf Mountain. The lollipop ends near a pit toilet, and then you can follow the outbound trail back to the parking area.

Wolf Mountain Trail makes a nice loop with Juniper Ridge Trail, but definitely do Juniper Ridge Trail first to make a big counterclockwise loop. This takes advantage of the descent down from the ridge and saves the easier Wolf Mountain Trail for the return.

Super fun trail. Pretty easy with a few rocky creek crossings. Steep ascends lack traction in spots due to loose gravel. 15mi — 1h 37m
