Parking is free at Syd Kronenthal.
Description
Great ride in summer to get the cool ocean breeze. Mostly a dedicated paved bike lane with a couple short bike lanes.
You can park for free at Syd Kronenthal Park in Culver City as a starting point, which is the beginning of the Ballona
Creek Trail. Ballona Creek is a concrete drainage way until it gets close to the ocean. It's about seven miles to Marina Del Ray, where you go around the bay. Then there is a short stretch along Washington which is bike lane.
The rest of the ride is mostly dedicated bike paths. This is a nice ride for hot summer days. People watching in Venice Beach is always interesting, you go under the Santa Monica Pier, and the ride ends near Pacific Palisades. In the summer months there are 2-3 restaurants open along the trail where you can get drinks and a quick bite.
There are connector trails, including one along Ballona Creek that takes you into Culver City Park which has planned eastern extensions. When you get to the ocean, you can also go south to Palos Verdes.
